Rap Sheet - Bio

Kathy Bennett was born and raised in the San Fernando Valley area of Los Angeles, California and has lived there all her life. The youngest of three children, she spent a happy childhood with her Mom, Dad, and sister and brother.

Kathy’s love of books began when she learned to read about the adventures of Dick and Jane, Sally and Spot. When she got a little older, Trixie Belden and her friend, Honey Wheeler, introduced Kathy to the mystery genre. Nancy Drew soon followed. As Kathy got older her favorite stories to read were mystery, romance, and true crime.

Kathy’s interest in law enforcement was fed by the television shows Dragnet and Adam 12. Both of those series depicted Los Angeles Police Officers doing their job. At the age of twelve Kathy decided she wanted to be a Los Angeles Police Officer.   (Wearing a badge won out over becoming blackjack dealer.)

Years later, Kathy realized her dream of becoming a Los Angeles Police Officer and she still holds that position today as a Senior Lead Officer. Her primary duties, in addition to street patrol, are to be a liaison between the citizens of Los Angeles and the LAPD. She educates and assists the community in crime prevention and quality of life issues. In 1997 Kathy was honored being named Officer of the Year. Kathy attributes her success as a police officer to her desire to “make things right” and the strong work ethic she learned from her parents.

Kathy’s husband, Rick, is also a Los Angeles Police Officer and they enjoy hiking, photography and playing with their three dogs and two cats. Kathy’s daughter, Jaimie, lives nearby with Kathy's granddaughter, Mikayla.
